So about a week ago I picked up a Black Eared Paroon (P. Larnaudii). He seemed to be fine, but the last couple of days all he does is swim above the bubbles from my long airstone. If he moves because of another fish, he just swims right back to the airstone. Is this normal? Or should I be concerned?

I have never owned a paroon before but I have had a few different cichlids that did that and sometimes they still do but I added somore more hiding spots and rearranged what was already there and they don't do it nearly as often , the only fish that does that now is a young oscar.

Is your paroon feeding good ?

Thanks man. I haven't had him that long and hasn't eaten yet. Gotta find a way to get him to eat.

Will do. Did any of yours just hang and swim in the bubbles? I have got a extra long airstone connected to a big pump, and all he likes to do is hang out in the bubbles like its a jucuzzi.....

Any ideas of how I can get him to start eating? He hasn't eaten since I got him :(

It might not be getting enough current or air in the tank or maybe both. Paroons should be feeding like crazy and they tend to swim quite a bit like a pangasius cat. They will usually eat until their stomachs are very distended. Try feeding him what ever the LFS was feeding him. You could try some frozen bloodworms, if it doesn't eat them then I would say it's either the tank mates or water.

They hang out in my bubble curtian which is about 3 feet sometimes but they never stop pacing the tank. Theyve eaten regular flakes when the were smaller and krill, and massivore as the got bigger.
