is this normal polypterus breathing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
looks like he is breathing a bit heavy, can't be oxygen deficient as they breathe air at the top, maybe something is irritating his gills, before you think parasite it could be ammonia even a small reading could have this effect or if you have coral sand in the gravel then unless it's trapped under a gravel tidy some of it will fly around in the water and cause heavy breathing, flicking etc, although there is no reason to have it in the tank at all with your bichir as it buffers the water and makes it harder (mainly used for african cichlids ),if it is an infection then you will need to add the appropriate treatment, it could also be stress related if the fish is new to your tank if so will settle down soon hope some of this helps as it's hard to know what's wrong unless you tell us tank parameters etc Paul

the tanks been cycled in almost a year i just added him yesterday could it be stress from a trip across the counrty he came from calfornia!

also i dont have no sand uploading better video
