My silver aro is only about 8-9" and it already has drop eye. Is this normal? I have never seen or heard of an aro so young with drop eye before. I feed him bloodworms, shrimp, and cichlid gold, so I don't think it has anything to do with its diet. Could it have been caused by the aro jumping into the lid? This is the best pic I could get with my 8 year old camera.

That's the smallest I've ever seen an aro develop DE.

Reflections from bottom or if any small fish ( tentative meal ) swimming below would cause the Aro to keep looking down and could develop drop eye.

with fish being kept in captivity, i'm not sure what's NOT normal. I think that our keeping of them often brings on various ailments that an otherwise, healthy free fish would not acquire. i'm sure PETA would love this thread.

mine was only a little larger than that when it developed DE on one side.

Staff at one of my lfs was telling me that they occasionally have small silver aro in and a couple of really small fish from most of their sale tanks normally end up sucked down the pipe work into their filter reserviors. Where they've found large silvers in there before that have grown in there from small they never have any DE and all their diet has been is fish like small guppies that have also been sucked down there. weird.
