That's why it's important to buy from a reputable source/farm. It saves you from the stress of second guessing if you got the right fish. You would be able to just focus on growing the fish out and trust the process.

Did you not buy the fish from a reputable seller/farm? Generally, people would buy small size from trusted sources since you can't tell for sure until they are little bigger. That's also why many people buy slightly larger sizes with some development already (less worry about being cheated). Anyway your fish is a bit on the small side still and relatively washed out in color (probably due to your tank environment) so hard to say for sure. But as of right now, it does appear to be an RTG/HBRTG of some sort but I could be wrong.


High back in Asian Arowanas usually refers to HBRTG (High Back Red Tail Gold), which are hybrids between an XB (Crossback from Malaysia) and standard RTG (red tail gold from Indonesia).
To put it simple, XB have 6 rows of scale/levels of gold shine, RTG have 4 levels of gold shine, HBRTG usually 5 levels of gold shine (sometimes little less, sometimes little more depending on which genetic it got more of).
There are SHBRTG (Super HBRTG) as well, I believe people call them that when the HBRTG has 6th level shine like an XB (What sets XB and SHBRTG apart is SHBRTG lack pearlies, which are small gold scales along the upper area connected to the dorsal fin).

But when I received the arowna ,I noticed it didn't have the classic red tail and black upper dorsal fin

Im afraid I got banjar red variety

Banjar Red when young look like green aros but all 3 fins have color (example below).
Your fish I can see the caudal and anal fin have faint orange along the edge. I can also see really faint thin gold rims on the scales that should be coming more visibly soon. Safe to say, your fish isn't a Banjar red.

I was afraid it might be banjar red,bcas of lack of black upper dorsal fin colour and red tail is devloping slowly only
