I have set up a 20g tank for baby JD's to grow out.

What I am wondering is if I have done it right! I took sand + 2 rocks from my main tank out and put that into the little one. I took water from the main tank and filled that into the little one. And I poured water out from my external filter and put that as well into the little one.

What I am wondering is if I have managed to get that all done correctly? And how long do I need to leave that there till I can put a fish in. I was planning to leave it for the day to settle a bit, then tonight to put one fish in (a fish that if something happens to it its really not a problem).

Have I done this all right?

id say if your fish are weak enough to hurt from that then they must be low quality fakes from china... jk.

no actualy, infact thats what i always do and if 100% of your water is from an established tank you dont even have to cycle it cause it already was.

imo. yes what you did is perfectly acceptable and i woulda put the fish in right after i was finished setting it up, are they in a worse housing now?

i suppose the only reason people wait is because the water has no ammonia, nitrate, nitrite etc. bacteria in it that your fish need to live and dispose of their waste in, and using established water already takes care of that so you could put them in instantly.

^ not at all, I just want to keep the baby fish from being eaten. But they are still in protective custody of the mother so I wouldn't be able to get to them yet. She keeps moving around the wigglers. Just waiting for them to free swim then they'll go into the small tank and grow out a bit to be sold.
