Someone told me not to use windex on the glass. And this is for the outside of the tank, I know using inside is bad. Theres some smudges and streaks on the glass and would really like to have the glass clean, what could I use? Sorry, I know this question is a bit dumb.

The newspaper idea Ive heard before. I have pretty hard water and when I do water changes, it drips down the sides and can be a little bit of a pain to get off. I just use microfiber damp of course and keep on it until the streaks go away. Its not a dumb question, you just dont know if someone else has an idea that works that you can try!

Ive never heard about using newspaper. Do you use it dry or wet? I would think that ink would smear on the glass, I dont know, thats just me.

If I ever spray any chem on my tank glass I do so in a very, very controled way. As stated up top, put some on the rag and then wipe the tank. NO CHEMICALS go anywhere near my invert (mantis) tank... I am always extremely cautious with chemicals. You can use them. Just be careful.

Use warm vinegar and a rag for hard water stains.

The newspaper used to work better before they started using soy based inks. The black ink indeed did come off, but in minute quantities and added to the luster of the glass, worked very well on crystal stemware. Crumple the paper up to make it softer and easier to handle and use it dry.

i spray my tanks all the time with windex i keep the glass tops closed and pray light at the top aiming down or i spray the towels ive never had a problem

I would not reccomend the use of windex or any other chemical around an aquarium. Vinegar and a paper towel or newspaper is all you need.

I wouldn't use windex or any sprays near a fish tank, if there are stains i'll usually just use a towel and water or some other combination. there are also aquarium safe glass cleaners at LFS
