I am planning on setting up a 75 gallon tank. I know that it seems rediculous but could I put it on a dresser in my room that’s 54” long by 18” wide? I would put a piece of plywood between the tank and the dresser.

Nope.
Simple as that

Have 4 or 5 people weighing a total of around 700 pounds sit on it and then wiggle it. I had a 75 on a marble top coffee table for 2 years and it held with pretty skinny legs. For a 75 tho that would only cost about 60 in wood to build one quick, maybe even less.

Hello; This is my first impression as well.

Hello; For a 75 gallon I tend to figure about 750 pounds or more. So such a test makes sense. Also bear in mind the 700 + pounds will be static long term load. Even holding 5 people for a few moments will not be the same as a long term load.

One other thing learned by experience. I put a 20 gallon tank on finished furniture many years ago. The wood surface was ruined by the moisture.

I would just make one. Framing lumber in my area is 2 dollar's a 2x4. I built my stand for my 29gal for less than 20 bucks, shouldn't be much more for a 75gal stand. The big stores will even do the cuts or have a saw there to diy.

It depends on how sturdy your dresser is, but the chances are significantly towards the side of no as everyone else has said. As a few others have mentioned it is cheap and easy to make your own. I think mine (for a 75 gallon tank also) cost 30 bucks or so which I made 6-7 years ago and is still going strong. Not worth taking a chance on.

That is not an accurate test

Example: you can probably hold 100 pounds right? But you can't hold it for ever... you will eventually break down... would will do the same. Maybe not as fast but pretty fast

That's roughly 700lbs. Dressers aren't designed with vert supports to hold this kind of weight

It’s also a super old dresser, built like a tank. Perhaps I’ll build a new stand for it some day.

Older dressers are usually a lot stronger than new garbage.
