Hello,

I have brought this up at aquariacentral but sinds i'm new there it does take some time for the moderators to check and aprove of my posts.
So i'm hoping somone on monsterfishkeepers can help me out!

I bought many fish a week ago. They are getting a white fungusly like type of white on there fins and mouth. After a day this disapears and there is a red wound viseble.

The water is fine, I get the water tested by a lfs very often. The fish are also not overstocked. They are breathing heavy but there is more then enough ocygen in the water. Also they are lustles. And wont eat.

Does annyone here can comfirm this is septicemia and is there anny way to cure this disease?
Also i have been in the water with my hands. I have cut my hands a few days ago and the wound was still there. Can this disease hurt me to?

VHS viral hemorrhagic septicemia appears as bloody areas under the skin, especially apparent around eyes, gills, mouth, etc from internal bleeding ( it can appear on the sides of a fish acutely infected). It is usually transmitted by bringing in feeders from geographically infected areas, like the great lakes of the US, and feeder rivers and creeks. Hard to have the virus get into a house unless you use untreated water directly from those bodies of water unless you brought in an infected fish.
The key word is viral. Can we cure a cold? Yours does not look like VHS to me.

They do have bloody areas under the skin on the sides of them and on the fins. the polypterus has it also on its back fin. Why i do think this is VHS is becouse they are breathing heavely and it started of only on the new fishes. And these fishes are wild caught and imported.

Im also pretty sure this is not caused by a parasite. So it has to be a bacterial or fungus infection. At first this looks like a fungus because of the white slime on picture 3 but because the white disapears into red bloody wounds i dont think this is a fungus but a bacterial infection. For what ive seen VHS comes closest.

If you are positive that this is not vhs what do think this is?

I'm ecually pretty sure this is vhs. The pictures doesnt really show how bad this looks in real and how damn fast this goes. Is there annybody that can tell me how to cure this disease. On the sticky here on monsterfish there is said large water change and antibiotics. How can i get the antibiotcs and what is this called? I live in europe.

I have a picture of a nandus nandus that was the original host of the virus. He died two days ago. This picture shows how serious this is. The polypterus looks the same now.

Have a look into oxolynic acid. Pretty harsh stuff, be cautious.

Now that you show the dead fish, it does look like VHS, in the first pics I did not see the red areas. But virus's cannot be cured with an antibiotic, bacteria yes, virus no.
