People just go out and grab atlantics from the oceans and claim they are fresh water.... atlantic rays CAN live in fresh water ..... IF there is large volume of water.... to live in fresh they secrete more urin and produce it 10X, so if the tank for it in salt water was recomended at 300 gallons.... then the tank for it in fresh would be 3,000 ....... hope that helps

Basically, to sum it up, like turkeyboy said, either the population from st.john's or from the atlantic ocean can live in freshwater. They both will produce 10x the amount of urea in freshwater. They both will need 10 times the volume of recommend volume and filtration.

Most of the Atlantics aren't really from the St Johns population. It's a LIE by sellers trying to make a dollar off the victim.....er...customer.

The St John animals have been there long enough to acclimate. As posted, those animals are producing a LOT more waste to offset living in freshwater.

However, all that aside, they are amazing rays to keep as marine rays. They do ok in captive settings, and have bred in captivity as well.
