Regarding large clown loaches? This is from a VERY reputable online dealer...

These are becoming hard to get at larger sizes since Indonesia where they come from has put many restrictions on the larger ones.

Just hype?

I remember reading that anythign over 6" has to stay.

I have heard that from several sources. Only the smaller ones have been available for export. Any you see for sale bigger than that have been raised to that size. If you have big ones, keep them healthy!

lol...not more than 10cm if im not mistaken..

Well, that is why i instantly grabbed 2 8 inch and 1 11 inch clown loach from a dealer..:D

Btw, they started it not because of food..but to protect the breeding stock

In any case, Indonesia has imposed a ban on the export of specimens larger than 10 cm in length. This ban, not only protects breeding adults, but also makes the captive breeding of this species by external agencies more difficult.

got it from http://rmbr.nus.edu.sg/biodiversitii/bio/aquarium_more.html

They did it because they wanted to preserve the breeding stock to ensure the food supply would be maintained.

read the edited post. :D

plus, most steps made are for the interest of economy, face it.

It is one of the most recognised fish and can be found only in Indonesia and to ban the export of large ones due to allow to remain as a delicacy?

However, i was told that although it is illegal to import from Indonesia, it is perfectly legal to get the ones from Thailand where they cultivate large ones for breeding. Not too sure about this though. Just heard it somewhere.
