This nasty stringy stuff formed up starting right where a powerhead pushes into a divider, in an area with a lot of aeration. Thinking about cleaning it out and removing the plastic plant entirely.

Is it algae? It's not super dangerous or anything, is it?

it looks like some sort of fungus i would medicate the tank just in case

did you collect any rocks or plants from local ponds or rivers? i know by me some rivers have rock snot in them and it can spreads quickly friends tank had a breakout of it because he didnt sanitize his rocks by boiling

I live in the middle of manhattan, lol.

I've removed the plant but there's still a little of the stuff clinging to a divider. Should I actually treat the water with something? Again I'm hesitant to do that if my fish aren't showing any symptoms of anything.

if you are hesitant on medicating the tank i would try turning up the heat maybe it can't live in higher temps
