Is this substrate ok for planted tank??

Either gonna stick with this or should I spend the money and change it? Also suggestions if u think I should change it. The tank is going to be a 75g planted tetra/community tank

I would change it. You can grow plants in that, but they won't have the chance to develop a sturdy base.

Eco complete or fluorite are popular chooses. I have plants in black beauty slag and pool filter sand both , and they grow just fine. I do use root tabs in both tanks.

I personally go the slightly more expensive route and use ADA Amazonia II or Amazonia New

Try AquaDurt, it's the same as the more expensive planted tank substrates, and works every bit as well. Heres a link to the company that sells it. If you scroll down that page it shows a guideline on how much you should get.

So 3 inches of dirt would be better? Was going to go sand but I think ill invest in fluorite

^ Depends on the type of plants your growing, but to be safe and ensure you plants have enough soil to grow their roots into, i would say around 2"-3" min for substrate base would be good...

I think the lowest parts on my planted tanks have at least 2.5" of dirt, while other areas i think reach up to 5"+ depending on the tank scape...
