So I have saulosi and yellow tail acei in a 55 gallon tank. I was told by my local fish store who is a well renowned cichlid breader that i can put some clown loaches in there too, but I've been told on another fourum that is bad too small of a tank. what tank would I need.

It all depends on how big everyone is... In the long run a 55gtank is too small but, it can house them until they hit about 5" or so. Then you'll probably going to have to get a 100g or bigger being that these guys can possibly grow to 12" or so, but that will take aWHILE.
