Is this tank safe?

It's 7', 16", 24" but the glass thickness is .5".
is it strong enough to hold water full way?

1/2" thickness is pretty thick so I say it should be ok for being only 24" tall. Any taller than that I would recommend thicker glass. Based on the ad description the tank looks like a fixer up project. If you're not handy then you should move on for other deals.

Please note there are chips in the glass. Definately not "safe". May or may not have problems, but if you have problems getting a 150 watt heater to work in a 40 gallon, you probably want to pass on the chipped/fixer-upper tank.

haha good point.wait but are you saying it is easy to get a 150watt heater to be get at 78~80F in a 40gallon tank. (with no powerhead infront of the heater)

The lack of wood trim on top would be a problem for you as well, in terms of making a light fixture to fit.
