Hi all, just wanted to share something I found out.
According to my observations, a payara will fast and not show intrest in food when they have new teeth growing back into position, I hope this helps explain why these guys will sometimes just fast for a few days!:)
btw, my rhalph has grown it's teeth back, now lookin' mightier than ever!

I had a Tat that formed a mis shaped tooth. He was missing a tooth for a day until a new one formed. The new tooth was outside of his mouth and crooked. At first glance I thought the fish had a broken lower jaw or something. He had the mishaped tooth for a few days. And it was really causing the fish some stress. He would swim around doing the jaw flapping motion constantly for hours, trying to get the tooth to relocate inside his mouth. After a few days the crooked tooth was gone and he had only 1 for another week. Then a new one formed and it was fine after that. So this fish did not eat for many days. -------But I have seen one of my past scombs eat while only having one tooth. so I think it differs from fish to fish.

Intresting, could it be that the scombs new teeth was still imature. My rhalp wouldn't eat just a few days before he grew his teeth back.

my armatus always stops eating 2 or 3 days b4 he sheds a tooth. as soon as he gets a new one, hes starving!!

lately hes been fasting for no reason:screwy: he hasnt eaten in about 2 weeks.

ive noticed my new little rhaphs are eating huge feeders, and they have a few teeth out of place.

yea...ive noticed the same.
probably cause they know they cant catch food as easily?
all this payara talk....:(
