Wanted to start salt for a long while now, and can get about everything I need, but prices on the fish and lights, I mean 40 bucks for a neon goby!? Dotty backs over a hundred dollars!? I want atleast SOMETHING other than a five bucks chromis after all. How do you pay for it all? Just gonna go with a smaller tank, nothing over the top, if I get more experienced I might move on to something better, but I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna start with an ocellaris pair, and if I'm OK with those, once the tank gets broken in, I might get a small bta, maybe. Wich brings me to my next question, 450 $ for a halide? A little much you'd think for a light bulb, lol. Would this be an ok price to pay for one? How do you pay for all of it? I mean, not ALL of you can be rich can you?, lol.

Most of the prices depend on where you get the stuff from so shop around and compare if you can.The live rock prices depend on the type of rock you want to purchase and you can save lots of money on lighting if you don't intend to go the reef route.Which type of set up are you after?

I'm gonna get a tetra ht submersible aquarium heater, aquatic life internal skimmer 115, sand (not live), drip acclimation kit, master saltwater test kit, 200 gallon instant ocean salt mix, tetra whisper filter silentstream for 20 gallons, 15 gallon long aquarium, coralife digital thermometer, innovative marine aqua gadget accudrip acclimator, current USA orbit marine led saltwater reef lighting system, Marineland maxijet pro water pump, instant ocean hydrometer, seachem reefglue cyanoacrylate adhesive. 3 more questions...... 1. could I just use dry base rock for the whole tank? 2. Can sand be rewashed if it's been in freshwater for use in saltwater? 3. Are halides really worth it? http://www.hoveyelectric.com/hovey-...late-Lighting-Costs-For-Metal-Halide-Fixtures .

I wasn't clear with my question but do you intend to establish a mini reef display?....if so I would suggest going with the best grade of live rock that you can afford and if not then the base should suffice....same with the lighting,if you are not going for a reef then the lighting is not as important. If you wish to create a mini reef there are plenty of lighting options and you don't necessarily need metal halides.Do some research on the lights that are currently available as it has been quite a few years since I have kept a salt tank and I'm pretty sure the lights have advanced since then.

I'm not going to do a mini reef, but if everything goes well with the clowns, I might, MAYBE, get a bta. Would it be possible to put rocks I have found in the ocean in my tank after boiling the
Rock? As well as the same for driftwood? I'm not gonna push it with my parents, we weren't supposed to have two tanks in the first place but I finally got it done. It was originally gonna be a display/observation cage for things I catch, and it went from a salamander slightly moist, to a pickerel frog aquarium with water, to a regular understocked freshwater tank, to a stocked planted tank, to soon maybe a marine aquarium. I'm just gonna aim for just a pair of ocellaris and a bta eventually. I don't particularly want a smaller sized marine aquarum with evaporation and parameter flips and all, but it's the only thing I've got to work with. Could a cleaner shrimp be done in a tank that small? Or would the skimmer get the extra bioload although small. I don't wanna really push too much in a tank of that size. Could I feed clownfish chopped prawns, and the bta whole ones? I have five more questions still, would i be able to do try base rock for the whole tank even with the nem? Would the nem need any extra supplements? Could i use freshwater sand rewashed again for a saltwater tank? Would boiled ocean rocks and driftwood be able to go in there? Are strong leds okay for a bta? I'm Sorry about all the rambling and questions, I just wanna make sure I really do get it right as the healthcare of the fish is imporant to me.

No need to apologize for your questions ,I have no problem answering as well as I can and hopefully others will chime in and drip some knowledge.
I am not sure what a bta or a hem is but you should have no problems using base rock and thouroughly rinsed pre used sand...don't know much about the cleaner shrimp but cut up prawn should be okay if the clowns will eat it.The boiled rock should be fine but not so sure about the driftwood.

Don't want any tannins in a saltwater aquarium, so I might not do the wood and a bta or "nem" is a bubble tip anemone, the easiest of them to keep.

Ah.I thought the condy was the easiest but most clowns do not take to them if I remember correctly.I'm not sure if led lighting would be sufficient as I have never used them.
