Where the Parachromis roam...
To get info on Baramundi??Heard they are related to the Aro??Is this true?I am interested in them and was wondering if any of you guys could give me some info on these fish, thanks.

yes : ) barramundi belongs here

but no, they are not related to aro.... well yes , they are fish, but no, ones a perch , the other is a bonytongue

barramundi is lates calcifer, commonly a food fish in asia. grow to about 4ft ? 5ft?
related to the nile perch, japanese perch, tanganyikan perch... ( the lates family)

eats almost anything. easy to start with feeder, but also easy to train to frozen food or pellets

they are warm water fish. i find them hardy in terms of water chemistry.... not exactly sure on the pH... .but yes i've kept them with peacock bass so it should be fine....

sucks how i can't keep em here in CA anymore D: its added on the list :|

they'd eat fish that small compared to them.

I wonder how hard they are to find,i cant ever remember seeing them for sale around here.

what part of mass you in? I've seen them in Chelmsford as "sea bass".
Chinatown would also be a good place to look, you can find just about anything there:grinno:

Barramundi Lates calcarifer. Native to my home state here in Australia catadromous, grow to 6 feet will reach 2 feet in 12 months mainly piscivorous predator in the wild but will eat anything, easy to get on to pellet as juvies, will eat any tank mate they can swallow see pic.
Dont keep them in tanks myself but have some in ponds/dams. The number one freshwater/salwater sportfish here in Queensland pic is from one of the stocked dams.
