not going to happen until some laws change or the asian aro is removed from the endangered species list.

not necessarily. The USFWS has the authority to allow you to import an Asian arowana into the united states with a permit. I have a hunch this is going to happen soon, but I should be the first person to know. The owner may have ties to the FWS, and they've been talking about it a lot lately.

As far as I know, it's not a go yet, but the fact that word is getting out that something is in the works is a good sign.

Not much to it really. It's just that I've been talking with the two people who have the power to make this decision for over a year now, and I should be the first person to get an email whether it is a go or no go.

I have a feeling that the biggest issue here is the critics. They'll have to justify why they're doing this to the hords of people who don't see it as a conservation effort. They've been through all this back in 2003 when THEY proposed this thing to begin with.

I think one way to strengthen our chances here is to try to talk to the breeders (I'm talking to our brothers in Asia now) and try to get them to start donating proceeds to Conservation International. If we can prove that by purchasing a captive bred arowana, we're in fact helping in conservation, I think this would open up quicker. It seems that fws wants the breeders to be contributing in some way.
