(British Columbia, Canada, prohibits the importation and possession of the following species/genera of fish commonly found in the aquarium hobby:

Bowfin Amia calva

Catfish from genera Clarias (walking catfish), Ictalurus (Channel catfish) and Noturus (madtoms)

Eels from genus Anguilla

Fathead minnows from genus Pimephales

Gars genus Lepisosteus

Tilapia genus Tilapia

FOUND IT ON AC. IF THIS IS TRUE IS KEEPING A GAR IN BC ILLEGAL? SECONDLY ARE ALL THE ASIAN STORES SELLING LIVE TILAPIA ALSO BREAKING THE LAW.
 
i hope not too, although there a lot of shops that sell these around here. Where does one find a definative list of what is restricted
 
Wow, that's surprising considering Florida's are found easily around here...

I suppose whoever regulates/inspects the imported fish are pretty slack about what get's into BC.

Never mind i dont want to find out, the fish will be returned to the store he came from asap. It will make space for a new 'legal' fish

I would contact the relevant office in B.C. concerning this and clarify it. This is a rather cryptic regulation.
