First, let me state that I am not going to do this now or in the future.
But on a facebook fish group someone stated that if you keep one single Red Belly Piranha it will do well with other tropical fish because it doesn't have any piranhas to school with. Is this true? What do you think? I would think they'd be a bit nippy but every fish is different.

If you pull up the thread what was the silliest thing you ever done I posted that I put a baby RBP in my Mother's tropical community aquarium and the 2 inch RBP ambushed a couple of the inhabitants attacked a tetra and chewed the long trailing fins of an Angel fish.

I tried this years ago when I was just starting out in the hobby.I had an Oscar in my tank and a buddy gave me one of his beat up RB.It attacked and chased around the Oscar almost from the start but the Oscar was smart as it noticed the RB only had one eye and it began to attack the RB from it's blind side.

Did this once and it failed!

That makes sense however I am too afraid to do it myself.

Lol... Ouch that sucks! I remember when I put a tiger shovelnose in my mom's community tank one fish a day went missing one by one.

Btw I was young and did foolish things in my teen years lol.
Same here. I did some stupid **** as a teen.

Seriously check out the Pirahna Forum's online and find out if anyone was ever successful .
Yea, I've been browsing some of them. Hoping to find one that has a section for pacus and silverdollars.

I think that is the only way it could work. The piranha will have to have some sort of a disadvantage.

Fish are driven by their instincts and while it may work for a time, even a single rbp will eventually start attacking other fish.
Very true. However, I am not a fan of piranha, they are all hype. Very skittish and bang into the aquariums when simply looking at them or doing water change, when I kept them they were way more skittish that any of my silverdollars. Actually my big school of silverdollars is not skittish at all anymore.

Sorry to hear this. Maybe one will work with aggressive cichlids and other predatory characins like wolffish etc.
