That whining noise was most likely a respiratory infection. Your lucky that the turtle improved and survived without any habitat adjustments or antibiotics. A good rule of thumb is that if your turtle makes any noises that you would expect from a dog, there is something very wrong. They don't whine.

I consulted with a couple vets to check out about it and they said it is a possibility that its a respiratory infection but since he didn't show a single sign other then making noise that wasn't even close to a wheezing sound that it wasn't necessary to take him in. To this day he still makes noise on occasion some times its more of a whine and some times its more of a chirp of sorts. hes just an oddball but I love him.
