How do you know the "wild caught" fish is not really captive born? I'm about to buy my first F0, and I trust who I'm getting it from, but its not like he went to where ever himself and caught it. Its a good way to double the price on a regular fish. Do we just take there word?

if you like the fish and you dont mind the price then it dosent matter id say

It's sometimes hard to tell.. As sometimes LFS or even importers don't know if the fish actually was pulled from the river or shipped forma captive bred colony sitting over the border...

I was In an LFS that just started.. It is a break off of awholesaler who i will leave nameless.. But they told me this.. I laughed and he didn't... Couldn't get him to show me his list or his sources of purchase :D

Go figure an LFS that won't name his source even if you make it look like you are just goading for info on the origins of your purchase :ROFL::ROFL:

Though If you watch Fishfarm and Mojo's videos in my opinion if they say a certain fish is wild caught.. You can most the time find that fish in one of their vids when they caught or when they caught the parents and then follow the vids til birth ;)

If you had a pair of wild caught Jags for example, you could be buying a 5th generation Jag from the wild caught pair. The fish still may look the same as a wild caught specimen.

My captive born festae which was cheaper looks more colorful than my "wild festae" pair that I just bought today for $60. The difference could be due to stress from transport or different genes from the wild.

some differences I noticed were the larger eyes despite the same size body. Wild also had a longer thin body with a larger mouth. Again this could be just a variation in the captive bred gene pool or it could be a show of difference in wild fish.

The only way to be sure is know and trust your source...this site is actually a great resource for asking about peoples experience with different stores, importers, etc...
