Issues with mixing African and NW cichlids

No matter what I do, every time I have mixed African cichlids with oscars and convicts somebody ends up floating at the top of the tank. Does this happen to anyone else or just me?

yes the africans dont really mix with ca cichlids but i have had success with yellow labs, blue johanni, an buffaloheads with convicts.

They really do prefer different water parameters. I think recognizing that will determine what you automically will end up with.

I would not put africans with oscars.

I think diet is the main issue. If they are not wild caught I don't think water parameters matter so much.

The whole mixing of American and African Cichlids debate has been brought up numerous times here. You'll get different answers and replies. Personally, I don't like the look and I prefer to keep them with different set ups. But I have seen it work well for other people. What size is your tank and what species are you trying to keep together?

well i have not had success with that so in my personal opinion i think it is a bad idea
