An island somewhere......
This is one of my remaining three (3) Istlanums I purchased from Don Conkel about 2 months ago. I've decide to throw them into a community since they've been doing better in that setting verses in isolation. Currently 3" and living in a 270g. community tank.... for the time being.

For some reason it isn't as RED on the photo when uploaded to MFK then it is in person or in my photo library.....

Great! Me like istlanums.

I'd recommend cutting back on the feeding. Definitely not a healthy stomach bulge.

Just compare with the wilds Joe just brought back here.

Being overweight is not good for fish. Like people it can put stress on organs leading to shortened lifespans.

Well, I agree with you on the cutting back on the feeding but in a community tank w/ 270g. or water and about 24 smaller cichlids it's hard to ration out certain portions if the fish is aggressive during feedings. It's not always stuffed like this btw, just a little more aggressive since I haven't fed them in a couple of days while being at work.

In you're opinion House, what is the Islantum's aggression like? I have a local guy getting a few of them and I have a shot at getting one. Problem is I would have to put him in with my community tank...

^ Nasty as hell from my experience. I've had only one, well it was my dad's, and it killed everything we tried. House these only hit 12" or what?

Orbit... I'm not an Istlanum pro by any means... bought them bc they're not readily available! They seem to do fine in the community tank but that won't last long! Ruck Fules has a pair that's 6"-7" that will kill eachother and anything else in the tank. They get to 12"-13" per what I've read and have been told.
