Im having a bit of a clearout next week, and regretfully im moving on one of my Istlanum pairs. The largest male has developed a crooked jaw, it has been developing for a month or so now and is pretty obvious. As i like my fish to be fin perfect, hes gotta go, along with around 10 Citrinelum, my big texas and some other odds and ends.
Here he is one last time folks, shame as im fond of him.

Luckily i have another pair, which are perfect in every way. Heres the male i am keeping, hes about an inch smaller than the other male.

spectacular :) too bad I'm not closer cause I'd definitely take them off your hands :D

Very nice looking Istlanums. Did you keep the fishes from young? What kind of water parameters is suitable for them, anything different from other cichlids?

I've had some young ones before but didn't keep them well and I thought it has to do with the water.

Did you get a chance to breed the dominant male with the female? They're both amazing.

Yes mate, they have spawned a few times, but i never raised any young.

I acquired them at 2-4" around a year ago. My water parameters are Temp= 75 Ph= 7 I keep both pairs in a C/A community setup with no problems. The tank is very well filtered, oxygenated and maintained. :)

Sounds good, it won't be my last attempt at keeping Istlanums, I am quite sure I will raise one before I call it a day!
Same thing happened to me on Haitensis, never could raise them, until I got my hands on 3 inchers, and now I have two males in separate tanks chasing every other fish to bits. But Istlanums are really something I want to keep to full adulthood after seeing Mojo's fish!

Same here my friend, i tried 3 batches of 10 Haitiensis young around 1-2" a few years ago, and lost each batch within 6 weeks. :(
