The guppie and platy population outgrew the 4 household tanks. Since we had been using a 300 gallon black rubber Stock tank for our hot tub I thought, hey that's cheap enough for a small pond. So a hole was started to accommodate one, , outside the front door along the entrance path. I figured hey, ok, so whats a few lost guppies and platys come winter, it's not like I didn't have an endless supply always coming. Then came the summer heat, the dryness and pond hole digging stopped for about a month maybe more.

Finally the hole was dug, the stock tank lowered, water entered and dirt backfilled up to it. Black mulch laid around it, bricks and stones, aquatic plants and the never ending supply of guppies and platys. Then one day an L144 went in then a Paradise fish. This seemed to be the beginning of Ausfishwich. Then this past week I noticed how clear the water had become, so a pump went in. Then I noticed how the little fish were merrily swimming in the tank just minding their own business like they were in heaven. Heaven, Oh, no!. Now I am find myself looking for pond warmers and winter protection. So this is why I am here. I already have a stock deicer, can get another if need be, but can I put a aquarium heater on the bottom of the "pond" to give more warmth when the snows fly. Just enough to make it bearable for them. A bubbler maybe? Some sort of cover? It's not like I wanted a major project, or a major expense, I just wanted space in side. The "pond' is about 3 feet deep, maybe less, around 300 gallons.

So anybody got any inexpensive ideas to throw by me?
