A rare sighting, two of my least seen bichirs came out for some pics, typically the are either buried in the vegetation or at the bottom of a poly pile I sometimes think I forget they are in the tank( could be a sign your tank is overstocked)

My green lap and dark weeksii

Ooh they have some shady looks to them.

How do you keep the plants rooted? My little sens always knock out my small crypts but not the ludwigia, I see you have some real good plants there! :D

My substrate is a 50/50 mixture of PFS and blasting sand for most of the tank. the plant areas are a base of pure blasting sand capped with the 50/50 mixture. The roots hold strong in the blasting sand. I use long narrow rocks to cordon off the plant areas to keep the pure blasting sand in place.

wow! Looks great! They definitely look like mythical creatures. Love the weeksii and nice greens on the lap.

Thanks, considering how long I have had these two I have very few pics of them. The lap is the "sister" to my giant weeksii having got them together back in 2011? The little weeksii I got the following year, nice fish but certainly not the same genetics of my 22" one .
