Hey MFKers

Like many other MFKers I spend a lot of time looking at people DIY builds wishing I could do my own. I asked my folks about it and they are both quite in to the idea of building a tank in our study. The room is squared and measures 85"x85".

The Plan

To have a tank running across the back wall of the study. For as little money as possible. Now I know that you shouldn't skimp on things when your building tanks but I am a student so funds are tight.

I was hoping to build a breeze block/cinder block base Then to have a ply wood tank with a glass viewing panel. After a conversation at my LFS they said I'd be looking at a 15mm sheet if I wanted it to strech about 6'-6.5' x 2.5 - 3'

As for hight I need it to be about 55cm off the floor to allow room for 2 fx5's (currently own one) but looking to get about 3' depth inside.

The Questions

Would it be better to build the whole thing out of blocks? which is cheaper?
Realistically whats the maximum internal size I can hope to achieve?
As an estimate how much will a sheet of glass cost in England?
Will I have to put anything on the walls to prevent damp damage?
Overall how much am I looking at?

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to chuck a few Sketch up ideas together to get some more opinions.

Thanks

p.s. This will all be happening over the xmas holidays when I get about a month off from uni! :headbang2
