I have just started handling African Cichlids and the fins poked the back of my hand. Now I have itchy bumps on my fingers. Any suggestions on a cream I can use to calm the itch? Thanks.

Never seen that before related to Africans.
You must be allergic to the fishes slime coat.
I would wash in the hottest water you can stand with hand soap and use something for poison oak/ ivy.

I hesitate to hand out medical advice you may need to speak to someone in that profession.

Anytime I react to anything I take Benadryl.
That is interesting... I haven’t heard of anyone reacting to fish like that. But it’s possible for skin to get irritated by so many things, so why not fish. Haha.

I thought the same thing. I’m just afraid to recommend a person take medication.

No allergies.. it's from the fins poking the back of my hand.
If you’re not having a reaction then it will pass on its own.
How did you manage to get poked on the back of your hand that many times?

Checking the cichlids for eggs and fry. Netting up a couple hundred and checking each one will get you poked once or twice lol

Understandable. I think Benadryl is pretty safe and something a lot of people have probably already taken at some point in their lives. Of course if the op has medication allergies I would hope they would consult their dr first.

Did Benadryl help? I think you were allergic to something that the pick wounds came in contact with if not the fish themselves.

I have so many stupid allergies. I can't handle brine shrimp without gloves. My fingers that touch the stuff turn red, get all hot and itchy, but like on the inside, it's insane.
