It's gorgeous! Can't wait for mine to be that big! They are only 4 and 5" right now. How long did it take for it to reach that size? And are the crawdads feeders?

had one but was picking on my rtc so it had to go wish it didnt tho nice looking channel

Ive had old flippy the destroyer for a little over a year now. bought him as, pretty much a new born.
The more you feed him, the faster he grows, or such was the way it worked in my case.
Say your prayers for his tank mates though. Flippy there has had quite a few roommates that he ended up thinking were cute enough to eat.
I'm still surprised how good he looks these days, when he was younger he had a lot of sicknesses, and had a few run ins with some nasty parasites.
Durable little fish these channel cats.

Very cool. My blue will be moving out into the pond when its built and he's big enough, but i have an albino id like to keep indoors, They are beautiful fish.

Do you catch the crawdad yourself? What do you do when they are out of season? What size tank is he in?

Sorry for all the questions... Ive been really into learning about channels lately

Well the great thing about these fish is that they eat absolutely anything.
(also annoying when it comes to finding suitable tankmates)
Some times I have the ambition to go out hunting for crawdads, most of the time not so much.
They are only a buck at my pet store I go to. Um, out of season, some times Ill feed him frogs that you can catch anywhere around here. Or just misc. fish.
When tadpole time comes around (which is right now) You can get them by the thousands with just a small goldfish net and a little time down at any retention pond.

Switch things up on occasion and give him sinking algae wafer food, and shrimp pellet food for bottom feeders. I figure it probably has some vital nutrients that he is not getting from most of the things I feed him.
Just play around with it, see what they like and what they dislike.
I do have the feeling that, having raised mine on mostly live foods is why he is so violent towards others. So, if that is true then beware of that. (this is my first big cat, so I don't know how he would react to others had I raised him on frozen food and or pellets)
He is quite comfortable with my arm in the tank though, which is nice. He doesn't mind being pet, or hand fed.

Awesome, thanks for all the great info!
The only crawdads I've seen in LFS around here, are the expensive ones... but Ive been trying to catch some in the lake, not that they are big enough to eat them whole yet, but i figured pieces of them could be good

Nice channel!
