On Wednesday I got a senegal bichir for my 40 gallon tank. I expected him to go on a "hunger strike" and not eat for like a week. And that's what he did until like ten minutes ago.
So I realized I forgot to put the weights on my lid to prevent escape, so I go and turn on the light and see that he is in a one way tube
. I turn on the tank light and place a single pellet at the exit of the tube and wait. When he woke; he started a painstakingly slow journey to the exit of the tube (he was at the back of the tube) 'til he got to the pellet. When he got there, he sniffed and turn and swam fast to the back of the tube
Right as I was about to turn off the lights and leave he headed towards the exit, but this time it took twice as long. When he (finally) reached the pellet he stopped, sniffed and tore and small chunk off. Since it was a bottom feeder shrimp pellet it sent crumbs everywhere. Over the next minute he took a bit, chewed and sent more crumbs flying. So he broke his fast and hopefully he'll eat again and the Mourning.
