So I haven't been very active on here. I was in a limbo between a monster tank and a planted tank. Needless to say, spending $200 on lighting didn't do it for me. Monsters will always be with me. ANyway, more on that in a bit. First, pics of my only tank up at the moment, a humble 10g. Occupants are 2 convicts, paroon, gourami, pleco. Excuse the decor

So my 55g wasn't doing it for me. The dimensions sucked, plain and simple. I sold it and picked up this little 50g (36x18x18) by AGA. I need to build a stand (I want a short one) and have my glass guy cut some glass tops for me. Filtration is on order as well-Eheim 2217. This tank will hold 1-2 P.E.Endlicheri, 1 Paroon shark, 3+ Widebars dats, 3+ IT, then either a tig or motoro ray. I'm used black estes sand as substrate witha nice piece of dw and some java ferns.

Yoy don't need a ton of light to have a spectacular planted tank, I use only 15 watts.

daymmmm you got some monsters....

Wow that is going to be one full tank some day. Planted tanks can cost next to nothing, and they can cost thousands. I know mine is in the thousands, but some of my others are very basic, and might have 100 into the plant side of it, not counting fish.

It took some number crunching to realize just how expensive a planted tank would be.

80lbs Aquasoil: $160
Regulator: $120
Lighting: $200
Filtration: $130
CO2 Tank: $50

and thats before a single plant, hardscape, or fish.
