My gf and I have decided to venture into the realm of small mammals, more specifically hedgehogs. After extensive research, we have come to the conclusion that we are suitably equipped and are experienced enough with our diverse menagerie of animals to care for this cute, docile, clean animal. We are unlucky, however, when it comes to places to procure one of these cuddly quill-balls. There are two pet stores in MD who sell these lil guys, and we have found NO breeders at all, using the internet, paper, and phone book, who reside in the state. The overwhleming cost (350-400$) of getting one shipped from an experienced, licensed, and respected breeder is deterring us from going that route. The pet stores are licensed as well, and the price is roughly a quarter of what they cost to be shipped, but the expertise of the employees will vary, thus affecting the empathetic lil guys! Bottom line is that we are kinda bummed about the options but SUPER happy about the lil guys themselves! They are easily warmed up over time, with patience and love.

So, I wanted to ask if anybody here (ahem melissa, lol) has any experience with these lil guys, or any advice for me, because there's never too much of that!!!!!

and who could resist this face!!!!

Thanks,
Tony

Oh my god! They are SSOOOO adorable!!

I've always been partial to small mammals but getting a license from the Minister of Home Affairs would akin to trying to shoot a full frame shot of the moon with my 35mm lens. Impossible!

Cheers,

Thier quills are not ultra sharp, and if you take the right steps to introduce your scent to them when you get them, they keep their quills laid flat and it feels like a wire brush is all!

They're great lil guys, went and saw some today at the place we're gonna get one :)

yeah, they're cute alright :)

I had thought of one of those when i was investigating small animals. Came down to the choice of glider, hedgehog and ferret.

Ferret won out ;)
