It's Maurice! Is Maurice a she?

This is my absolute favorite cichlid, Maurice:



He's a F1 "Zaire Blue" frontosa, and these pics really don't do his coloration credit. The front of his face is practically shiny purple as I look at him (her?) now.

Maurice is about 7.5'' and ~7-8 months old. If he were a male, should I expect him to be growing a hump by now? (S)he seems to have a little something going on there.

Anyway, just wanted to show off one of my 3 favorite fish, and maybe get him sexed, if possible. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pix and the air bubbles my leaking canister is pumping into the tank.

And yes, in pic 2 that's the top of a Roanoa Zoro action figure that got "lost" in my tank.

I don't think you can tell by the hump as both male and female get them. Try venting him/her. Beautiful frontosa by the way

lol it looks amazing and sure. It might be hard to vent, as I even have troubles sometime, but here is a link http://www.fishhead.com/articles/ventsex.htm The main thing is oO is female and oo is male on their anus and vent. Good luck

Nice looking Front also Males vents can sort of have a more diamond shape. I have only seen this in pics no experience myself. Mine are to young to vent.
