i found this site on my never ending journey to put a positive Id on one of my cuda's. And i have never seen a site laid out with pictures of so many rare characins.

Hope you enjoy and don't wear out your mouse's clicker :D

sweet, nice find. lets see that cuda, or link to the post.

I will get some new pics here soon as i have just moved them into a bigger tank and decided to let this little unknown guy swim with the bigger boys.

The little unknown is around 3.5-4"
and the 3 yellow's are 7.5-8.5"

all bought at the same time and were supposed to be same species. All had black stripes when bought at 1.5-2"

In the last pic he is pictured with the yellows when they were all close in size. And to the untrained eye it looks close to a yellow. 1st and 3rd pic is at about 3 months in age. Middle pic is around 6 months in age.

But the body is broader in size top to bottom. The dorsal fin is red and the anal fin is reddish. But the tail fin is yellow around the black spot but then fades to red. It has a distinctive black dot behind the gill plate. And no humeral spot like a altus. The upper and lower jaw are even in length and the top jaw comes down to a point allmost.

The yellow tail cuda's have exploded in growth in the last few months balloning to 7.5-8.5" and this little guy has not grown much at all in that time. The yellows are very skittish and shoal very well. The unknown cuda does not group with them at all and is not skittish ever.

I wish i had a good camera. i will try to get updated pics soon.

thanks
