iTunes Alternatives?

I just myself an iPod and I have always dreaded using iTunes and I'd rather stay away from using it.

Now I found these alternatives online, but I wanted to see if any of you guys use these programs or know of other good programs that are good iTunes alternatives.

I use poddox when I'm in a rush and Media Monkey when I want to do a full overhaul of the songs.

OK this may sound stupid but I can't get any songs into my iPod. I tried using iTunes and Media Monkey and doing the whole sync thing and it says sync is done but still no songs in it.. WTF? Am I doing something wrong? I thought this was supposed to be simple?
