axolotl or something similar like a mudpuppy. i remember seeing one at a petshop but idk which one it was. i just love the look of the external gills.
does anyone have one of these? i'd like to know what maintenance, costs, pros, cons, etc of keeping one of these as a pet. thanks in advance.

Theres many good webpages on the internet for caring for these guys.

You'd want the axolotl. These keep the external gills, and are much much smaller than the mudpuppies that grow pretty big indeed. There is plenty of further info on both of them on MFK if you use the search function near the top of the screen.

i have 2 axolotls. easy as hell to take care of.

i keep them in a 10 gallon aquarium, no gravel, no filtration(must do 100% water change every other day), and they need water at room temperature. anything much warmer and theyll die. they eat rosy reds, blood worms, and pellets. of course you can make ther setup more elaborate then this.
