Hello everyone. I have officially caught the fish fever. I am a couple weeks away from being able to introduce my 5" BGK to my recently purchased 40 gallon breeder (36"x18" footprint, 16" tall). There-in lies the problem. What else can I put in there with him? I have made threads on the Puffers , and CA/SA Cichlids pages, asking what species of each would work with my Knife.
Now, I will ask all of you over here: what I can keep with him? At this point I am open to all suggestions. I want something with character, something personable, interesting. If you think it will work, name it. I'm preferably looking for a semi-species tank, my Knife being the 'oddball out'. But, like I said, at this point, any suggestion would be great.

* Thanks in advance to all those who help, and a big +1.*

40breeder.... could go with some silverdollar family types. moves alot grows at least half the bgk. schools with more buds.. had my bgk with a few redhooks at one point.

lately here i see alot of wild angel(reds, perus) types. they would look sweet in a planted with a full sized bgk.

i think anything thats relatively peaceful in nature should be fine with bgk. they are much more passive then other knifes imo.

(my bgk lives with all knifes tho. brown ghost. bluntnose. gck rck sck they would all work imo . even bigger loaches like CL;s and botias)

I can actually agree with that... :D... That's exactly what is with mine right now. Not redhooks, but SD's nonetheless, and not wild but a Marbled Crown Gold Angel (seen in my avatar). They seem to not mind each other, and actually do pretty well. I really want to go another way with this tank, though.

As a last resort, I will move my Angel, and SD's into the 40 also, and buy a few more of each. Until I'm at that point though, I want to see what else is out there for options.

I had CL's in mind. A small-decent sized school of them would fill out the bottom of a planted tank quite nicely. They are probably gonna make the list.

I was really thinking about a couple Firemouths, or Juruparis, but have my troubles and concerns. For Firemouths, my concern is I have heard stories of Firemouths getting aggressive toward each other and other fish, sometimes out of nowhere. Juruparis are extremely hard to come by around my neck o' the woods, and I'm still not entirely sure I want them. I have to keep reminding myself that I can't just "change my mind" once I get them.

I also had thought about Bichirs. Even Ropefish. Again, very hard to come by, and paying for shipping is a Bee with an itch.

Yes, I have ADD.

Definately appeciate your reply. :)

^ yups most part is finding buds thatll live in the 40breeder long time hence my choices ;)

also i went with things i know would work more then not .

my 16'' ck did away with abunch of my loaches though so hehe trial and error really ;)

i think FMs might be okay . just have a spot they can call their own if u get a pair. i dont think abunch would be good. there pretty nippy..
even geos. theyd outgrow your 40 fast tho i think ? wheres all the other replys :D

I don't think they'd outgrow it. Satanoperca jurupari usually grow no more than 8" if I remember correctly. My tank is 3 feet long, 18 inches deep, and 16 inches tall. I'd say it would be a fair housing.

Anyway, a definate 'yup' about getting a bunch of Firemouths... lol
I was thinking about a pair - tops.

I'm starting to picture it. 3-4 clown loaches, a pair of Firemouths, and my black ghost.... not bad. :nilly::headbang2:nilly:

I think I'm getting a pair of Firemouths. :naughty:

Also, maybe a small school of pictus cats. Clown Loaches would get too big in a couple years wouldn't they?

Also 2, My tank is setup. Bare, save the gravel - but setup. Pics tomorrow.

so far for me it seems that the perfect drug to get me off fish is herpatology. sorry dude, it just gets worse
