My mom bought some platys they told her the one with the swordtail was a male and the other two were females. I don't know if that is true or not but whatever the case, we now have 18 baby platys. There were more but before we found them and could isolate them, some of them died and i'm pretty sure some of them were ate. And if its anything like i'm told, i'll have babies every month from each female.

i'll post some pics when my phone gets fixed, but who knows how long that will be......

I have a backyard 60 gallon pond with them they breed like rabbits non stop underated fish they are pretty ,active and hardy fish .

Floating plants real or fake will save many fry from being eaten and they live there till get to a certain size where they will no longer be eaten and they join the tank .
They are nice fish and IMO underrated ESP if fed color up type food.

what is best to feed them right now? they are only a couple of days old. and how long before i can tell male from female??

either go out and by premade fry food, or crush flakes super tiny.

not a huge fan of platys, had two pretty creamsicle ones for awhile. but they are basically aquatic rabbits when it comes to breeding lol.

i'd get one of those floating breeders that let the fry drop into a lower compartment so they don't get eaten, that's if you plan to keep them. Or you could let them go and see if any escape the parents [making hiding spots plants etc.]

the parents don't like to eat the tropical flakes, so what should i feed them? and i have them in one of the floating breeders, i didn't put the female in there cuz i wasn't sure if she was pregnant or not. and would the fry be able to eat baby brine shrimp?? and if so would they eat the frozen ones??

Also, i've been wanting some mollies. could the platys and mollies breed??
