OK, I know I bought them as a pair, but i wasn't expecting wrigglers quite so soon. I've not even had then for 2 weeks yet!

So i noticed some eggs being scattered around the tank on Sunday, but didn't want to say anything incase nothing came of it, but i looked closely into the tank tonight because Mr Channa Gachua was hiding in the corner. It looked like the gravel was moving under him so i look closer and low and behold there's a load of tiny wrigglers!

Like I already said i really wasn't expecting this to happen so soon, i mean they need time to settle before they start spawning usually right? And I thought most parents take a few attempts to get it right?

Sorry about the quality, I've not got a gret camera

I even witnesses one fry making a break for the surface, but Dad swam up in a hurry, sucked him into his mouth, swam back down to ground, and little fry was ejected from the gills back to safety :D

Cheers for the comments I'm going to try and borrow a decent camera and get some better photos if they're still there after work

Nice one ozwald! I bought 4 of what look to be the same type as yours last October. I think they're Channa gachua species turquoise? A pair formed out of the group and they bred for me when the temp hit 21C and I now have well over a 100 fry! It's my first breeding of any snakehead so I'm well chuffed. It's quite comical watching the male chase after any stragglers eh! The female will feed feeder eggs so no need to worry about feeding the fry for a while yet. Mine are just over a cm now, but the male is keeping them in a driftwood cave so I can't take any photo's but when he brings them out I'll take some.
They're a cracking little species, with great characters. All the best with them.

Cheers,
Outlander.

Nice. I wasn't sure what species they were to start with, only that they weren't bleheri as sold. They seem to be doing well though. Dad was still being protective and seemed to spit out a small piece of pellet for them to munch on

Sp turquoise and sp bengal are almost identical. The only way to tell them apart is sp turquoise have a blue eye spot on the tail end of their dorsal fin when young, and the bengals don't or so I've been told!
