Hey ray people, I am thinking about getting a motoro.
I know they get huge. The one im looking to buy is about 7". I currently have a 60"x30" foot print that holds 180 gal. I know long term this is too small for a motoro. I have plans on putting a nice pond in my home in 2 or 3 years. Would the growth rate be too fast to keep it in the 180 for a few years?
I wanted to house it with two bichirs i have. So far.....they have never attacked another fish that wasnt meant to be food. Ive own many bichirs and if they get aggressive I sell them off. Would two equal sized bichirs be ok with the ray?
I also own a black aro. about 14" right now. I read about a ray eating aros. is this only when their adult size or can this happen at smaller sizes? Good tank mate?
My ph is kind of high at 7.4. I read mixed things on the sticky and comments that people have made about what ph they use. Id love to bring the ph below 6.8. Will it be ok if I have to use 7.4 ph?
My nitrates are usually around 20ppm. I do 25% water changes weekly. I was considering doing 40% water changes from now on, to see if that will bring my nitrates down to 0ppm. Will nitrates at 20 ppm be a problem? Do the rays really increase the amonia and nitrates more than most large fish?
Please be nice. Im new to rays and probably going to step on a few peoples tails but I just want to learn. Ive kept aros and bichirs for a while now with great success. I feel i could make changes to be a great ray owner as well.
