It's a bold statement, but I think it's true.
We took our school on a field trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium today and I talked my way into a look behind the scenes. I noticed they were using Iwaki pumps. I asked the Aquarist about it he said that they always buy Japanese motor Iwaki pumps for their smaller systems. A commercial application like this is very demanding. Not to mention thousands of dollars worth of livestock depending on the pump's reliability.
My personal experience has been very good. I've got one Iwaki that has been running a big protein skimmer continuously for over 10 years. Another one was used to circulate my saltwater tank against a 14' head for 10 years and now runs my filters and circulation for my freshwater setup.
I've read a few pump threads and don't see Iwaki mentioned that often, I'm not sure why.
Any other loyal Iwaki owners out there?
