I have installed 2 Iwaki pumps on my 300g. I think they are rated at 1500gph.
They are working great and moving the water like I had hoped BUT they seem to be very loud. Either that they are making a humming noise through the sump itself.

This humming noise is driving me and the wife crazy.

HELP!!!

Yea the sound is being transfered through the base of the pump, you can isolate the pump with rubber or similar material (rubber suction cups should work pretty well) The only sound I get out of my Iwaki after isolating it is a faint turbine style sound that you have to get real close to hear.

It could be fed through the base, or it could be fed through the plumbing. Check that the connections are all secure, and held down well. If they are, then the sound is being fed down through the base. Also, the american made iwakis are not as good as the japanese made iwakis that are nearly impossible to hear.

Don't have iwakis but I have to buffer the sound of my magdrives inside the sump

I use a sponge as in the pic above, underneath the pump and as you see, between the PVC line from the pump and sump wall to quell vibration. It works well, as does styrofoam.

I have the sump & both pumps isolated with foam type excersice mats. I used all braid reinforced plastic hose for all lines.
The return lines that run to the left side of the tank run between a 4x4 support and the plywood that makes up the back of the stand.

If i lift the pumps there is no change. When I put my ear next to the pump I can only hear the whiring sound, the stand has some noise, but when I place my ear on the sump there is most of the noise.

What else can I place the sump on? I was thinking to go to home depot and get the rubber mat with the holes in them(the type used behing a bar)
