hey i was just wondering how rare the murray cod is in the states? i know there common in austrailia but they have some export ban right?? anyone know and could help me?

i i think your right on the ban

australia has a ban on exporting wildlife

i remember reading my cockatiels for dummies book that all cockatiel are captive bred as australia has a ban on exporting wildlife whether endangered or not.

that was my clue.

hurry up and give me ur perchhhhhh!!!!!!!

I think you're right too. I know the Australian herps (monitors, my frilled dragon, etc.) are all captive bred too. The only wild ones that I have heard of in the hobby are species that also occur either on New Guinea or somewhere else in Indonesia.

I am not really sure if the policy applies to fish. I would assume it would though.

LOL ming, guppy, vince somebody?!@?!?!?

no one knows how rare they are in the U.S.?!?!?!?

no one has any right now, only one seller i know was able to get them. So I would say VERY rare. I need to look into how they need to be kept. I thought they are cold water fish...not sure... Fishbase shows they are criticaly endangered, but not in CITES list? Sometimes Fishbase also lists the "tropical temp" but it is not accurate. I read that the Aussie lungfish could live as low as 50 degrees, but Fishbase shows it can live 78 degrees or higher...so it was not accurate. Here is the info on the murray cod in Fishbase. Note 180 cm, not sure how fast it grows.

tough question. supply and demand could pretty much dictate the price. also how much are you wililng to pay for it. if I have room, and there are specimens in the 5-6" range, I would probqably pay up to, but not limited, foru about $100 a piece, IF I am a collector of that particular fish. For someone who has the room for the size of that fish, some might even be willing to pay up to maybe $500 a piece. It also depends on how much was the price, freight, and import fees, etc. The price is nothing if you really want it. Compare it to other rare fish, some are priced so extensively, all you can do is dream about it. But in this case, if you like fish that will eat all your other fish, :lol2: definitely worth it, again if that is what you like. I have no room, if only I can setup my other 180 (8x2x18"), :lol2: no room. I need a bigger house!!!!

LOL thanks again vince. hahaha im looking to get one to keep with my nile perch. both grow to be monsters so im hoping it will work. and i think the price is around what you said.
