Personally I would fast the tank for a few days then try feeding pellets. If that doesn't work just stop feeding the shrimp for a couple weeks. Sometimes the only way to get a fish to break it's habits is to break your own first. The jack seeing the others eat should eventually insensitivize it enough to start eating the pellets after being starved for a week or 2. Don't worry about it starving to death as these fish can go upto a month without food in the wild and sometimes longer. Eventually it should get hungry enough to try the pellets. Also my jack Dempsey will only eat Omega one shrimp. what should i do to get him on my pellets? all the other fish eat Omega One super color but he will go days without eating until i do my twice a week Shrimp Feeding.
Sounds good I will deff use your advice. What do you think of my fishes colors? They are all about 4-4.5 inches at the moment.Personally I would fast the tank for a few days then try feeding pellets. Love the GT and red devil but the jack could use some more color. But then again from the looks of it, he looks like he's the underdog of the tank so he probably won't color up much more then he is already. I know with my old male jack I had he was a looker but he was also the top dog of the tank too so that made a world of difference in his color. This was mine btw.Sounds good I will deff use your advice. What do you think of my fishes colors? They are all about 4-4.5 inches at the moment.
beautiful JD! but funny enough my JD is the smallest in the tank but he is the most dominate he just does not eat pellets (probably why his colors aren't as nice as they could be). Then my GT and RD don't mess with each other. sometimes My RD will go at my GT but he stands his ground and nothing comes out of the dispute.Love the GT and red devil but the jack could use some more color. Probably because the GT has a similar color scheme as the JD does. Either that or they may both be males. The jack for sure is a male but hard to say about the other 2, almost impossible to accurately ID the gender of those species unless ya vent em. As for the disputes it's probably all about territory and it'll only get worse as they grow up. JD's are known to be very mean fish sometimes and tend to take the tank boss role asap if possible. I know with the Jack's I had, 6 in all, 5 were mean while only 1 was chill. Ironically the chill one was also the biggest and best looking, 14in, at almost 11 years old. I believe the Gt and JD are male however my Rd is a female(she was with a male Rd in the LFS when i get her)Probably because the GT has a similar color scheme as the JD does. But yeah just try starving the lil guy for a week or 2 and if that doesn't work there is another idea I've seen others use. Basically you take that fish's favorite food and soak it in garlic oil before feeding, afterwards ya start soaking the pellets in the same garlic oil and it should help the JD mistake the pellets for the shrimp due to the similar taste/smell. Granted I'd try that only if the fasting doesn't work. Usually I find that fasting is the best method but not always.
