I have 2 male 5.5-6" jacks that I would like go breed. I need a female though. I found one at an lfs probably 4" so a bit smaller. I'm thinking of getting her. She look a little underfed... She was in a tank with larger cichlids.

My 2 males are pretty shy and skittish. I've noticed the dominant fuller better looking male has been very skittish lately, he is also more aggressive (he has been the instigator of the fights between them although nothing too serious, he does seen to be annoy the other right now tho). The other is not as fuller and colors a bit fuller but sill good looking, isn't as or aggressive and isn't as shy but still skittish. He is the one to venture a little more than this other.

They are both shy and skittish to fast movement. I'd like to know which I should keep to try and breed as I would like to offer one male to do a trade so I don't have a spare male to deal with if they pair that gets beat up.

Which would you chose.

Just had to divide them because the smaller one was pinning himself up in the corner. Looks like the dominant male was being territorial. But who know. I was worried the small guy might get hurt or bitten and jerked away and jumped the divider to my convicts defending fry so I had no choice.

I don't want to keep the skittish better looking dominant male is he's too aggressive to a smaller female. But I'm not sure about the non dominant male because I would want him getting bested my the female. Lol

At this point dont give away either of the males, make sure you provide lot of hiding places for the weaker male to hide. Goes for the female too , she too can hide if any of the male gets too aggressive.
Introduce the female with both males around , look for any overtly aggressive behaviour by any of the fishes , so that you can intervene.
Once you know an established pair formation is underway , remove the extra male.
