I have a female Dempsey and I want to breed. If I go buy a make will they automatically start doing their thing naturally or is there a chance they won't yet along. There is no competition. I also want to do the same thing with a couple jaguar cichlids. Thanks!

They are very liekly to pair but get dividers. Im making some pairs right now and I have to take the divider in and out constantly until they lay eggs then they get along for the most part. I still have to seperate my proven pairs every now and then. Its just part of breeding cichlids.

Yes, with my pairs its normally the female getting beat up. If she isnt ready to lay again and that tends to piss my males off lol and from what ive read that tends to be pretty consistant. They normally fight when you take the eggs or fry away too.

+1 i'd try to keep the fry with them as long as you can

I also have a red tail catfish that is 7 inches. He will try eating the fry I know for sure, but will the dempseys be capable of killing them?
