Hey everyone, I'm seriously considering getting this BEAUTIFUL Jack Dempsey they have at my LFS... but I need some care tips... I know I could probably google some care sheet but I want to know from people who have had experience with them.
Max Size in Aquarium?
Min Tank Size?
Ph, Temp?
Behavior?
Aggressiveness?
Thanks, everyone!

P.S. Will it live okay with an Oscar of the same size? They have really nice Oscars there, too. I know how to care for oscars but not Jack Dempseys. Will they fight?

If you want to keep them together, you are looking at a five foot tank, 100 gallon. Otherwise nothing really special or hard.

I just got the Jack Dempsey and its in the growiut (20gallon long) tank, eventually they will be in a 125 gallon, I ended up not getting the Oscar because none of them really stood out to me, if Im gonna get an oscar or jack dempsey, it better be beautiful! Haha well thanks!

I have 4 Jack's 2 largest are right at about 11 inches and 5 years old. One can be kept in a 75 gallon tank alright for life. With your other fish you have I would say get a 125 when they get larger. But a 55-75 is a good start when they are 5 inches or less. I have found that keeping my male for ever he is not aggressive be has been by him self with no large fish allot of his life. Kept in a single tank for about 2 years he hangs out with any and all fry in my tank. Also found after feeding him pellets always he won't eat anything else. And I feed allot more variety now to my fish . My best advice feed them NLS food spectrum A. Great color and helps allot with overall health. Pm me anytime with any question I have been around Jacks for along time and like them allot. Should be fine with your other fish. You just don't know if they will mix sometimes but good chance is they will.

A fish I love and have had forever and I do not have a great pic. He is one of the best looking Jack's I have ever seen. Pic does not show his greatness as it is. He started at about 3/4"

I've had a few that lived to 6 years or so, and i find them to be very hardy and easy to keep. very much compatible in 5 foot plus tanks. behavior-wise not too aggressive, similar to oscars in that regard, perhaps a little more aggressive. A little more timid too. However, great choice and wonderful cichlid
