I have a JD in a 4' 90G with a pleco and salvini. I plan to remove the salvini. The JD was not very active and I was thinking of getting rid of him but it is beautiful fish. I added 5 red tail tinfoil barbs and I am very happy so far. THe JD is not swimming around a little bit. This is the only fish that my JD has not killed. The problem is these fish grow up to 8" or more. Will it be possible to keep this setup going? How fast will the red tail tinfoil barbs grow? What would be another type of schooling fish that can withstand a JD? I had 5 silver dollars but they were all killed.

I just got rid of some red tails the other day. We had them for about 7 months and were already 8". They annoyed the hell out of my other fish because while they're peaceful fish, they were quite bullish around food. Plus they're jumpers and would trash the top of the water when food was put in. I'll never own any more. There are better dithers out there... but since you already have them.. you should be ok for a bit. I was surprised my Mbunas didn't rip them to shreds.

Giant Danios maybe, if they are large and fast enough to evade the mouth of the JD

from my exp. jd's aren't arctive fish. i had a 8" male that just sat at the bottom by his rock untill feeding time. mine also seemed to get less aggressive as it got bigger, not sure if this is typical though
