hey i am relatively new to SA/CA cichlids although i did have an Oscar. and a breeding pair of convicts pink and black. but out of all of them i like my jack Dempsey the best but my question is is it possible to keep a male and female in a 30 or 40 gallon breeder. with just those two no others? cause i have heard cases were people have kept an adult pair in a 29 gallon.

as adults i doubt it in a 29g for a pair i would say 75 but its possible in a 55 also..

ok thanks. but what if its just two females. and do jack dempseys hybreed with convicts?

Yes convicts and jds will breed together. I've seen pics too. Females get smaller so I suppose it could work. Keep in mind jds get 10", some even say 12" they are extremely slow growers not as bad as panaque's but still slow. Ebjd grows slower than normal jd. And u will need constant water changes to maintain water params. I would say 25% daily and very overfiltered. Plants will help but they might get torn up. And what ever u do DO NOT overfeed in a tank this crowded! And you will need a divider on occasions or som1s gonna get beat up.
Best of luck
